Herbert A. Simon coined the phrase “bounded rationality” to express the idea that human decision-making is limited by available information, available time and the mind’s information-processing ability. In today’s world although the information is readily available, the decision making is getting increasingly limited by human mind’s ability to process ever increasing volume of information. Any process which increases the signal to noise ratio in information will help in faster decision making by reducing the net amount of information that mind eventually needs to process. In 2013, we looked at the decision making landscape in organisations and observed that the available technologies and paradigms were helping make decisions but with fixed cycles of information processing, running in batches, with little flexibility and agility. We saw products sacrificing usability for more features, deployment times of months and requiring days and weeks of training to get started. We saw a gap between the consulting and technology paradigms and sensed the need of a different paradigm. That is when we founded Avalia Technologies.
